Aletia Haynes Timmons for District Judge

An Experienced Choice

With over 25 years of experience , Aletia has a wealth of knowledge in civil rights, criminal defense, employment matters, nursing home negligence, breach of contract, and small business issues. After graduating from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Aletia began her legal career at General Motors Legal Services representing plaintiff's in a variety of legal matters. She tried her first trial there, and discovered a love for litigation and the potential change it can make in the search for justice. That trial confirmed for her the vital role that litigators have in our system and the importance of the judiciary.

Aletia has practiced law throughout the state, federal courts, and administrative courts in many areas of law.

After leaving General Motors, Aletia was employed by the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office in the Civil Division. She gained expansive trial experience, and expanded her knowledge in the areas of tort claim defense, employment law, and civil rights for ten years as an assistant district attorney. She returned to plaintiff's work, first by starting the civil rights and employment law litigation section at Abel, Musser, Sokolosky, Mares and Kouri Law Firm, then finally as a solo practitioner at her own firm, Timmons & Associates, LLC.

She has had great success as a plaintiff's attorney, securing multiple six-figure awards in jury trials. In addition to her success as an attorney, she is an active member of her community.  She serves as general counsel for Adult NAACP for Legal Defense, Central State Troopers Coalition, BLAC, Inc., Metropolitan Fair Housing Counsel, and represented the JFK Neighborhood Association pro bono in claims against Oklahoma City. She is a member of the NAACP, Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers, and serves on various boards and committees. They include service as a board member of Columbus Elementary Enterprise School Board, Vice President of Harding Charter Prep High School Board, as Governor David Walters' appointee on the Committee on the Status of Women, and as Chief Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court's appointee on the Supreme Court's Times Standards Committee.

Aletia is a former instructor at Langston University's Oklahoma City campus. She is also a CLE speaker/instructor for the Oklahoma Bar Association's continuing education programs, and co-founder/sponsor of Jamming Hoop Fest, a summer basketball program designed to keep youth in northeast Oklahoma City out of trouble.
